SUBJECT: Letter of Reprimand - Hair Not Within Regulations
1. On Saturday, April 6, 2003
you arrived for work not having your hair properly cut within
regulation prescribed by Air Force Instruction (AFI) 36-2903, Dress and
Personal Appearance of
Air Force Personnel:
“Men’s hair style will have a
tapered appearance on both sides and back, both with and
without headgear. A tapered
appearance is one that when viewed from any angle outlines
the individual’s hair so that
it conforms to the shape of the head, curving inward to the
natural termination point.
Block cut permitted with tapered appearance.”
“Men’s hair style will not be
worn in an extreme or fad style or in such a way that
exceeds length or bulk
standards or violates safety requirements. Will not touch the ears
and only closely cut or shaved
hair on the neck may touch the collar. Will not exceed 1 ¼
inches in bulk, regardless of
length and not exceed ¼ inch at the natural termination
point. Will not contain or have
any visible foreign items attached to it.”
2. You are hereby reprimanded. You have engaged in aberrant behavior which
will not be
tolerated from a member of the United States Air Force. Your past behavior has
raised serious
questions about your ability to remain in the United States Air Force. In the
Air Force, not
having your hair properly cut is a violation of Uniform Code of Justice (UCMJ),
Article 92,
Failure to obey order or regulation. If you cannot follow AFI 36-2903, I cannot
depend upon
you to follow other orders. Henceforth, I expect you to comply and exemplify AFI
36-2903
standards. Future misconduct will result in more severe action.
3. PRIVACY ACT. AUTHORITY: 10 U.S.C. 8013. PURPOSE:
To obtain any comments
or documents you desire to submit (on a voluntary basis) for consideration
concerning this
action. ROUTINE USES: Provides you an opportunity to submit comments or
documents for
consideration. If provided, the comments and documents you submit become a part
of the action.
DISCLOSURE: Your written acknowledgment of receipt and signature is
mandatory. Any
other comment or document you provide is voluntary.
4. You will acknowledge receipt and return this letter to me within 3
workdays of your receipt.
Your signature on this document is solely for receipt purposes and is not an
admission of guilt.
Any comments or documents you wish to be considered concerning this LOR must be
included
with your response.
