Key Points to Writing
- PCS/PCA Decorations will be based on EPRs/OPRs
- Achievement
Decorations read like awards, and will need a narrative for justification
- DO NOT plan on making up mid-tour points
in a PCS medal
- Ask for HELP, the only person looking out for #1
is you
- The only person looking out for your Airman is YOU!
- ASK for/WRITE
a Mid Tour decoration
- WRITE!!! The more you do it, the better you
get
- Use F7 to spell check. Errors reflect badly on you and your subordinate!

The following Air Force Achievement Medal (AFAM) for outstanding achievement example has been taken from a
Word Doc. If needed some location and mission information has been changed to protect myself and the
people I have received the package from. If possible, a little insight
will be given if it has been related.
If you have anything you would like to submit, please do so. Also, if
you have found this information useful, please let me know. Everyone of these
items has taken considerable amount of time to put together. Please use

STAFF SERGEANT <FNAME> <MI> <LNAME>
OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT
11 SEPTEMBER 2001 TO 30 NOVEMBER 2001
Staff Sergeant <FNAME> <MI> <LNAME> distinguished himself by outstanding
achievement as Deployable Transit-cased System Administrator, ##th Intelligence
Squadron, ###th Intelligence Group <NAME> Air Force Base, <STATE>. During this
period, Sergeant <LNAME> was key to the preparation of four deployable
transit-cased systems for deployment in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
In the hours after the terrorist attack, Sergeant <LNAME> led six people in a
marathon effort to prepare packing and load lists for National satellite and
RQ-1B Predator Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Deployable Transit-cased Imagery
Exploitation Systems. His acute attention to detail allowed the team to verify
142 packing and load lists were error-free; thereby ensuring all cargo could be
shipped without delay. He then worked 16 hours straight to create 34 packing and
load lists to prepare the U-2 Front End Processor for short notice deployment.
Sergeant <LNAME> helped ensure success of the RQ-4 Global Hawk Unmanned Aerial
Vehicle’s first combat mission by updating 56 packing and load lists allowing
timely deployment of a Deployable Transit-cased System to exploit the
Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance imagery. Sergeant <LNAME>
expertise and unselfish work ethic ensured Distributed Ground Station-? had the
tools in the right place and time to exploit and provide lifesaving, war-ending
intelligence to the warfighter.

Comment:
There is part of a series. The most important item for a
supervisor to understand is following up awards! This one was "lost" in a
drawer at the group level. Once it was found, the boss refused to endorse
it because it took place 12 months after the fact. the other issue focused
on the squadron CC being new and unaware of the achievement. The second
thing to remember, get the award in before the CC leaves, otherwise it will get
shot down!
