2007 Air Force Sergeants Association (AFSA) Pitsenbarger
award (AFI 36-2805, special trophies and
awards, para 4.6)
1. The purpose of this solicitation message is to request nominations for The
2007 AFSA Pitsenbarger award. The award period is 1 January 2006 - 31 December
2006. MAJCOM/FOA/DRU Suspense to AFSA headquarters is 1 March 2007.
Please note: Do not send Nominations
to AFPC/DPPPRS.
2. The AFSA Pitsenbarger award is presented annually to an Air Force Enlisted
member who has performed a heroic act, on/off duty, that has resulted in the
saving of life or the prevention of serious injury. The Heroic act must be of
such a nature as to have placed the nominee in risk of Personal danger, and a
legitimate attempt was made to save life or prevent serious injury to another
person or persons. This award is open to all air Force enlisted members on
active duty, the air national guard, or the air Force reserves. Do not send
nominations for posthumous awards.
3. Organizations and base-level personnel must contact their MAJCOM/FOA/DRU or
MAJCOM equivalent for applicable suspense date and for additional information
regarding nomination procedures. MAJCOMs, FOAs, and DRUs are Requested to
establish nominations and selection procedures and suspenses dates for their
units to meet the deadline. AFSA will only accept Nominations from
MAJCOM/FOA/DRU.
4. Each MAJCOM/FOA/DRU may submit one nomination. Send nominations Directly to
Air Force Sergeants Association, Attn: Military and Government Relations, P.O.
Box 50, temple hills, Maryland, 20757-0050 (if you use Express mail, send
nominations to 5211 auth road, Suitland, Maryland 20746 by 1 March 2007.
5. Nomination package should be in accordance with
AFI 36-2805, paragraph 4.6 and include
the following:
A. A write-up, limited to one single-spaced type-written page, size 12 Font,
using only the AF IMT 1206-v5, nomination for
award.
B. A biography, limited to one single-spaced typewritten page (see
AFI 36-2805, atch 2, for format).
C. A citation, limited to 50 - 70 key words, (not including opening and Closing
statements), which succinctly describes the nominee's heroic act (see
AFI 36-2805, atch 3, for format).
D. A public release statement from the nominee stating that "I do or do not
agree to give permission to use my name, rank, duty title, and base of
Assignment in the announcement message or any publicity regarding the award
Winner." The nominee must sign and date this statement.
E. MAJCOMs must validate with the unit that nominee does not have any derogatory
information prior to submission to the MAJCOM, FOA, or DRU.
F. An endorsement letter signed by the MAJCOM/FOA/DRU commander, Vice Commander,
or Executive Director.
